The History Of Fashion Brand Miss Sixty
Founded in 1991 in Italy, the Miss Sixty brand was established by visionary and creative Wicky Hassan and Renato Rossi, his business partner. The two were keen to establish the first really female-focused Denim design; they pioneered denim to have cuts that suited curves, with added flairs and colour.Their first masterpiece was the Tommy trouser, a denim jean that featured five pockets and stretch denim fabric that embraced a curvy female form. The design was an immediate bestseller worldwide.
In 1995, Miss Sixty’s shot to fame with a collection of 60s-70s inspired products, popular with the youth of the 90s it led them to expand across Europe. They built a new headquarters in Chietti, Italy. In 1999 the first UK Miss Sixty store was opened in Covent Garden, London.
Expanding still, it was in the year 2000 that Miss Sixty then branched out into their Footwear Collections. A year later the fashion photography icon Ellen Von Unwerth shot the company’s first international ad campaign.
With no sign of slowing, Miss Sixty opened further Flagship stores across the globe; shops were opened in Tokyo, Milan, Shanghai and Los Angles. Products were immortalised in further campaigns, this time shot by the legendary Mario Testino.
Miss Sixty then had a denim breakthrough – with the innovation of lightweight 7oz Denim which allowed for further jean styles like cargo pants. These became popular with celebrities like Britney Spears and Cameron Diaz. Next came another classic trouser, the J.Lot uber-skinny feminine five pocket jean with zips at the bottom of the legs!
In 2005, Miss Sixty began their own range of perfumes too. Whilst a year later Miss Sixty make history as the first fashion brand to do a live catwalk show at the brilliant Guggenheim Museum in New York. The show receives critical acclaim and sends the face of Miss Sixty, Asia Argento, further into the stratosphere.
In 2008, Miss Sixty secured a prosperous future with the addition of online shopping available 24/7 from their website, something that few fashion brands had yet to cotton on to. It was around this time that celebrities further started to celebrate Miss Sixty too, choosing to wear their products on the red carpet like Rihanna did in 2009.
Miss Sixty even launched a car in 2010, in collaboration with Renault. The model was named the Miss Sixty Twingo and featured custom feminine graphics and motifs with a distinctly 60s vibe.
Miss Sixty now produces women’s fashion, perfume, eyewear, footwear and kids wear; they are best known for their casual cuts and ability to enhance the female figure. Their fashion line includes: jeans, tops, sweatshirts, skirts, jackets, bags, shoes and sunglasses.
